Anella Cultural is a project undertaken jointly by the Catalan government (Generalitat de Catalunya), the Centre de Cultura Contemporānia de Barcelona (CCCB), the i2CAT Foundation and the Xarxa Transversal network of municipal councils.
Its aim is to develop a network of cultural facilities - Anella Cultural means "ring of culture" - which will make intensive use of the opportunities afforded by the second-generation internet to foster content exchange, coproduction of on-line events and research into new uses of the web in the production of culture. It seeks to streamline the dissemination of culture and offer creators a tool for experimenting with new digital art applications. Anella Cultural is a ground-breaking endeavour in the field of Research, Development and Innovation since these techniques have never before been applied to cultural activities.
The Gran Teatre del Liceu has been a participant in this project since the 2007-2008 season. Live broadcasts of fourteen full-scale operas and smaller shows from the Petit Liceu programme have so far taken place.
