The Sant Andreu Jazz Band is a band born in the Sant Andreu district (Barcelona) in 2006 under the musical direction of Joan Chamorro. Made up of young people between 7 and 18 years, is considered Europe's youngest big band.
Their first concert was at the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Terrassa inside the young jazz section. That same year they also played in the first edition of Classic Jazz Non Stop created by Fundació Catalana per la Preservació i Difusió del Jazz Clàssic.
In 2007 the SAJB returns to the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Terrassa and takes part at the Barcelona Jazz Festival, first in L’Auditori and then sharing stage with la Locomotora Negra at Palau de la Música.
From that moment on, being part in jazz festivals like Barcelona, Tarragona, Andorra, Girona, Terrassa, Arenys de Mar and Granollers, consolidates the band as musical educational project, recognized and endorsed by internationally renowned musicians such as Jesse Davis Terrel Staford, Dick Oatts, Kenn Peploswky, Bobby Gordon, Perico Sambeat Ricard Gili and Ignasi Terraza, among others.
During this 6-year career, the Sant Andreu Jazz Band has also had the opportunity to perform in Europe at the Provence Swing Festival and the Jazz Festival in Marciac.
SAJB repertoire is made of more than 50 pieces in constant renewal where we find: Dixieland, New Orleans, Swing, Big Band, Bebop, Funky and Vocal Jazz.
