The project aims to reflect what the opera is from an emotional point of view, exploring the possibility of creating links with the viewer through the images displayed: gestures, details, movements that everyone recognizes and that are synonymous of universal feelings.
Through real image a series of very tight and specific shots are performed, capturing only the details, focusing on the subtleties of small actions. Thus, the story of The Flying Dutchman makes his way up to the climax. There aren't unnecessary shots. All represent or refer to specific emotions.
The fact of filming it in black and white is not random: the style of the narration and the images and music used demanded the image to have this treatment, giving a much more serious and consistent look according to the general aesthetics of the piece.
The aim of capturing the emotions, feelings, and finally the climax of this story, leaving aside the objective narration is to display the "guts" of the opera, showing it as what it is: a mixture of love, joy, redemption but also filled with moments of sadness, loneliness or anger. The Flying Dutchman is a story full of nuances and deep and visceral emotions that have the ability to thrill the audience, making them identify themselves with those feelings and furthermore helping them to understand the story as what it truly is: a timeless tale.
