BALLET OF THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE COVENT GARDEN
The Sleeping Beauty -Tchaikovsky's well-known ballet based on the fairy tale by Charles Perrault- has been on the bill at the Royal Ballet at various turning points in its history. This was the title it performed at its first public appearance after the forced interlude of the Second World War when it abandoned its former name (Sadler's Wells Ballet). And then in 2006, when it celebrated its 75th anniversary, Monica Mason and Christopher Newton embarked on a new, ambitious adventure: the revival of the memorable production premiered in 1946 by Nicolas Sergeyev, Ninette de Valois and Oliver Messel.
