Born in Bogotá, he studied at the Curtis Institute of Philadelphia and is a winner of the Operalia 2001 competition, Pavarotti 1995 competition, and Toti dal Monte 2004 competition, among others. Invited by Plácido Domingo, he became part of the young artist program at the Washington National Opera. 

He made his debut at The Metropolitan Opera in New York as Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), later returning as Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro). 

Additionally, he has performed in theaters in cities such as Los Angeles, Palm Beach, Dallas, Montpelier, Treviso, Bogotá, Santiago, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, and more. He has been conducted by maestros such as Gustavo Dudamel, Zubin Mehta, Andrés Orozco Estrada, Lina González-Granados, Josep Pons, Christopher Rousset, among others. 

He debuted at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2008/09 season with Le nozze di Figaro and has returned with Le nozze di Figaro and La bohème (2011/12), Tosca (2013/14), Benvenuto Cellini (2015/16), Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni (2016/17), and Il tabarro (Il trittico, 2022/23).
