Biography and curriculum vitae of Michael Boder
Michael Boder was educated at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and continued his studies in Florence. While he was the music director of the Basel opera, he went as guest conductor to Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Cologne, London and Tokyo.
He currently conducts in leading opera houses and is a regular guest at the Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg, Munich and Vienna state opera houses, and at the San Francisco Opera. The foremost milestones in his career include new productions of Wagner’s Ring at the Semperoper in Dresden, Schönberg’s Jacobsleiter and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at the Staatsoper in Vienna, Berg’s Lulu at the Staatsoper in Munich, Lulu and Wozzeck at the Staatsoper in Vienna, Wozzeck at the Staatsoper in Hamburg, Der fliegende Holländer at the Berlin state opera house and in Tokyo, Le grand macabre and the Ring in San Francisco, and Khovanshchina at the Liceu in Barcelona.
A series of world premieres are evidence of Mr Boder’s success in the field of contemporary music. They include Cerha’s Der Riese vom Steinfeld and Oedipe at the Staatsoper in Vienna, Penderecki’s Ubu Rex and Trojahn’s Was ihr wollt at the Staatsoper in Munich, Reimann’s Das Schloss at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Dusapin’s Faustus, the Last Night in January 2005, and Henze’s Phädra in September 2007 at the Berlin state opera.
Michael Boder also has a commitment to the concert hall and has conducted in Florence, Lisbon, Paris and Venice. He has worked with some of the most distinguished ensembles, such as the philharmonic orchestras of Berlin, Vienna and Hamburg, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne, the Tonhalle-Orchester in Zurich, the Bamberg Symphony, the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
