DON QUIXOTE

COMPAÑÍA NACIONAL DE DANZA
JOSÉ CARLOS MARTÍNEZ, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

One of the great classical ballets in a contemporary, more personal interpretation by the CND

The Compañía Nacional de Danza is back at the Liceu with Don Quijote by Ludwig Minkus, a 19th-century classic re- choreographed by José Carlos Martínez, the CND's current director. Since its first performance at Madrid's Teatro de la Zarzuela in 2015, this show has toured Spain extensively and earned applause from audiences and reviewers both here and abroad. Martínez respects the inherently classical style of the original choreography by Marius Petipa but adds a few clear nods to our own times to keep the modern approach of this highly personal reading of the tale of the Knight from La Mancha intact.
