- The press conference scheduled to take place in the theatre foyer on 18 March at 11.00 is also cancelled.
- This also affects the creative process and performances of El monstre al laberint (The Monster in the Maze), in accordance with the protocol to prevent the spread of the virus announced by the Catalan ministry of Education, regarding the suspension of all activities outside educational centres that involve the simultaneous participation of students from different centres.
- The four school performances given by IT Dansa in the Teatre Auditori of Sant Cugat have also been cancelled, as there will be more than one educational centre at each performance. Due to capacity restrictions, the suspension also affects the single-family performance of the same show, as well as the OFF Liceu concert that was programmed to take place in the foyer of the Liceu.
- The Gran Teatre del Liceu will contact everyone affected by the suspension of the artistic activity, to inform them of all the available options.
Barcelona, 11 March 2020. The Gran Teatre del Liceu has been forced to suspend its artistic programme until 26 March following the new state of emergency announced today by the government of Catalonia, due to the COVID-19 situation. This modification of the protocol in force until now forces the Liceu to cancel all artistic activities with a seating capacity for over 1,000 people. This situation affects different theatre projects, such as the production of Wagner’s Lohengrin, that will be suspended.
Likewise, the entire creative process and performances of El monstre al laberint (The Monster in the Maze) have been cancelled. Following the announcement of the ministry of Education of the government of Catalonia relating to measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in educational centres, the Gran Teatre del Liceu is forced to suspend the scheduled rehearsals and performances of Jonathan Dove’s show, which involved the participation of 823 ESO and Batxillerat students from over 20 institutes. The ministry announced ‘the suspension of all activities carried out simultaneously outside the centre that involve teachers, non-teaching staff or students from different centres’, as in the case of this participatory opera.
The same measure announced by the ministry of Education has led to the cancellation of the four performances by IT Dansa that were scheduled to take place in the Teatre Auditori of Sant Cugat on 11, 12 and 13 March, due to the fact that they would have been attended by more than one educational centre. Said suspension also affects the single-family performance of the same show, which was programmed for 14 March, as well as the OFF Liceu concert scheduled to take place on 20 March in the theatre foyer. Although the seating capacity is under 1,000 people in both cases, the obligation established by the preventive measure to restrict capacity to a third means that it is impossible to host the event during the 15-day state of alert.
The Sant Cugat city council and the Teatre Auditori have announced that IT Dansa’s family performance has been postponed until Saturday, 17 April 2021 at 6.00 pm. All tickets for the performance initially programmed for 14 March will be valid for the new performance.
The press conference scheduled to take place in the theatre foyer on 18 March at 11.00 is also cancelled
The Liceu will duly announce all changes in its response protocols, always following the instructions of health authorities.
