Born in Zaragoza, Jose Luis Casanova began his musical studies at the age of 8 and excelled in piano, flute, and singing. He obtained a Superior Piano degree from the Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory of Music in Valencia and graduated in singing with Miguel Bou.
He made his debut in operas such as La Bohème and Lucia di Lammermoor. He directed the Choir of Our Lady of Help in Benetusser before passing the auditions for the chorus of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in 1993. He furthered his training at the Neu Oper in Frankfurt, Germany, and debuted in supporting roles. He won the Juan Oncina Prize at the International Tenor Viñas Singing Competition in 2001.
Since 2002, he has participated in productions at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and has expanded his repertoire with prominent roles such as Des Grieux in Manon and Romeo in Romeo et Juliette, both on the "Opera in Catalonia" tour. Additionally, he has collaborated independently in various productions and festivals, establishing an international career that includes performances in Spain and Italy.
He debuted at the Gran Teatre del Liceu during the 2001/02 season with Henry VIII and has returned on numerous occasions, most recently with Turandot (2023/24).
