An “opera without words” that will surprise many and fascinate many more.
The acclaimed conductor Lorin Maazel was also a skilful composer, who wrote an opera, 1984, based on George Orwell's novel. In 1987 he condensed some of the most famous passages and orchestral episodes from Wagner's "Ring Cycle", replete with leitmotifs, into a 90-minute arrangement. This “opera without words”, originally written for the Berlin Philharmonic, will surprise many and fascinate many more, thanks to the spell of Wagner's ageless music.
