These tours begin amid the superb elegance of the old Renaissance-style Lobby. The next stop is the Auditorium, an exact replica of the original horseshoe-shaped hall designed by the architect Miquel Garriga i Roca in 1847. It can seat almost 2,300 and all the operas, concerts, recitals and dance performances in the main season are held here.

Then comes the Mirror Hall, which for many years was the favourite gathering spot of the Catalan upper middle classes. Nowadays a wide variety of activities are organized here and are attended by people from all walks of life.

The tour concludes in the Foyer, a multi-purpose venue located below the stalls area and of the same size. If offers seating room for 400 and standing room for 1000. An audience briefing is held here prior to each opera performance and latecomers can watch the show on a screen until the interval.

Visitors then proceed to the Auditorium, an exact replica of the original horseshoe-shaped hall designed by the architect Miquel Garriga i Roca in 1847. Then comes the Mirror Hall, which for many years was the favourite gathering spot of the Catalan upper middle classes. Nowadays a wide variety of activities are organized here and are attended by people from all walks of life.

The tour concludes in the Cercle del Liceu, a British-style private club founded in 1847, which is part and parcel of the opera house premises. It houses one of the finest Art Nouveau collections in Catalonia. In its lavishly decorated rooms, visitors can admire a unique collection of paintings by artists such as Ramon Casas, Modest Urgell, Santiago Rusiñol, Francesc Miralles and Alexandre de Riquer.

LICEU SECRET

The stage is the largest unit and focal point of the entire opera house complex.  It is equipped for opera and dance performances, recitals and concerts. The musicians of the Liceu's Symphony Orchestra play from the pit. The Orchestra and Chorus are the Liceu's two permanent ensembles.

The tour also takes in the dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms and other facilities. In this section, the veritable heart of the Liceu, the intriguing world of opera is revealed. The last part in the tour explores the dressmaking department and character design room, where costumes are fitted, ironed, cleaned, and labelled, wigs and masks are made, and makeup and hairdressing takes place.

Groups wishing to go on this tour must book in advance. However, every month, the Liceu organizes tours at 9.15am for interested individual visitors.

This tour does not include areas open to the public (Auditorium, Mirror Room and Foyer). It is not suitable for persons with mobility problems. Children under 14 cannot be admitted. Comfortable shoes are recommended.

  3. Public areas are not included in this tour
  4. Ticket changes or refunding are not accepted.
  5. Lost tickets will not be reprinted at the Theatre Box Office.
  6. Due to technical reasons, some spaces may be closed to the public.
  7. Pictures and video recordings are subjected to the indications of the guide.
  8. Due to security issues, people under-14s are not allowed on this tour
  9. Animals, excepting guide dogs, food and drinks are not allowed inside the Theatre.
  10. The Theatre reserves the right to refuse admission.
  11. No admission is permitted once the tour has started, maximum punctuality required.
  12. Discounts are not available online (child under 7, unemployed, subscribers, people under 30, ISIC card, people over 65 and disabled). Discounts are only applicable to tickets purchased in the Liceu Tours Box Office prior accreditation.

TOURS FOR SCHOOLS

These tours of the areas of the Liceu open to the public enable young visitors to discover the historical and artistic facets of the opera house, its uniqueness, and its importance as part of the cultural heritage.

Target groups

Primary School (ages 6 to 12), Compulsory Secondary School (12-16), Post-Compulsory Secondary School (16-18), and Schools of Music and Singing. Each tour is adapted to the needs of the group.

The first part contains information for teachers and the second contains exercises to carry out with the students.

Dates and prices

Price per group (up to 30 students): 100 €.

From September to July. Monday to Friday at 10 am.

Bookings can be made from 1 September 2016 at 9 am.
