Son of an active opponent of King Hassan II, he had to flee to Algeria at the age of 10, where his father was in exile. There, he began studying law but abandoned it upon returning to Morocco in 1982. He later studied Philosophy at Mohamed V University in Rabat and Anthropology at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Paris. In 1988, he moved to Barcelona, where he worked in the construction sector. 

He entered the world of cinema with the documentary "En construcció" in 2001, and since then, he has been involved in numerous films, including "Poniente" (2002) by Chus Guitérrez, "Las hijas de Mohamed" (2003) by Sílvia Munt, "Entre viure i somniar" (2004) by Alfons Albacete and David Menkes, "Le Monde est à toi" (2018) by Romain Gavras, "Yucatán" (2018) by Daniel Monzón, and "La dona il·legal" (2020) by Ramon Térmens. In 2021, he received the Gaudí Award for Best Supporting Actor for "La dona il·legal." 

He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu during the 2010/11 season with "Carmen" and returned with the same title for the 2014/15 season.
