Esposito, who was born in Bergamo, is considered one of the most interesting bass-baritones of his generation. He has worked with conductors including Claudio Abbado, Antonio Pappano and Kent Nagano, and stage directors such as Claus Guth, Damiano Michieletto and Pier Luigi Pizzi. He appears regularly at the world's leading opera houses in Milan, Venice, Vienna, Munich, London and elsewhere, and at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro. Though this is his first visit to the Liceu, he is thoroughly familiar with Rossini roles, having played Fernando (La gazza ladra), Alidoro (La Cenerentola) and Mustafa (L’italiana in Algeri), among others.
