Among the principal operas he has directed are Jenůfa and Platée (Stuttgart), Lulu (Mannheim and Basel), Madama Butterfly and Armida (Komische Oper, Berlin), Manon (Frankfurt), Le Grand Macabre (Friburg), Fidelio and Boris Godunov (Munich), and Die Soldaten (Zurich). He made his Liceu debut in the 2000/01 season with Un ballo in maschera and returned with Don Giovanni (2002/03 and 2007/08), Wozzeck (2005/06) and Carmen (2010/11 and 2014/15).
