The Liceu brings 'Carmina Burana' to Nou Barris in an intimate format featuring voices, pianos and percussion
The Gran Teatre del Liceu Chorus, the Gran Teatre del Liceu Percussion Group and the children's choir Amics de la Unió, accompanied by two pianos, invite Barcelona audiences to rediscover Carmina Burana from a more direct, human and vibrant perspective, while retaining all of its power and fascination. Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1936, based on a collection of medieval poems.
Written in Latin, Middle High German and Occitan, the texts explore themes of fortune, love, desire and the joy of living. Many listeners will recognise O Fortuna, the powerful chorus that opens and closes the work and has become one of the defining icons of twentieth-century choral music. The version to be performed in Nou Barris places the expressive power of the voices and the driving rhythmic energy at the forefront, preserving the work's full impact and spectacular character while offering an unusually intimate listening experience.
