An operatic project that explores masculinity through the figure of the hero and its representation in cinematic tradition
Els estunmen is an operatic project led by a group of film specialists that aims to explore and question the classical idea of masculinity through the figure of the hero, as well as deconstruct the representations of this protagonist character throughout tradition.
This project by Albet and Borràs aims to focus specifically on this imagery: what ideology lies behind the figure of the hero? What patterns of masculinity does it perpetuate? Does the idea of the masculine and brave hero still exert influence?
Focusing on a collective that, within the world of cinema, exemplifies or works—both consciously and unconsciously—with the myth of the hero, the stuntmen, also known as specialists, are professionals who take on dangerous scenes in film shoots, such as car chases, falls, fights, or jumps. The notion of danger is key here: the hero is the one who exposes himself, takes risks, and attempts to surpass the limits of his physical and spiritual condition.
