A unique display of virtuosity, emotion, and elegance that captivates the audience.
The gala features an exceptional program with iconic excerpts from the classical repertoire, combining lyricism, delicacy, and displays of great virtuosity.
In the incomparable setting of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Grand dance gala once again stands as a must-see event for lovers of classical dance and stage beauty. This unique occasion brings together some of the most outstanding figures of international ballet, offering the audience an exceptional evening where elegance, technique, and emotion blend into a performance of the highest artistic calibre.
The gala's repertoire has been carefully curated to create a balanced journey between romanticism and academic tradition, providing a rich and profound experience. The program features iconic fragments of the classical repertoire, with choreographies by Marius Petipa that embody the essence of traditional ballet, alongside neoclassical works reinterpreted by George Balanchine, offering a more contemporary and stylized perspective without losing the essence of classical movement.
This choreographic journey is bound together by a refined and coherent musical thread, dominated by the works of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, a true musical pillar of classical dance, and enriched with subtle touches of Puccini and other composers, enhancing the emotional range and sonic sophistication of the evening.
From the most ethereal and poetic passages to moments of virtuosic brilliance, the gala becomes a celebration of dance as a living, universal, and deeply human art form.
With this initiative, the Gran Teatre del Liceu strengthens its presence on the circuit of great dance capitals, placing Barcelona firmly on the international map alongside cities like New York, London, and Tokyo, and endowing it with its own flagship galas, marked by unique identity and global projection.
Based in Terrassa, Ballet de Catalunya is a well-established company within the Catalan dance scene, with a repertoire ranging from classical ballet to contemporary creation. Led by Leo Sorribes and Elías García, the company focuses its work on promoting dance through its performances and the Educa Dance program, aimed at fostering new audiences. With a clear mission —to keep Catalan talent at home— Ballet de Catalunya has become a benchmark for artistic creation and projection.
Over its nine years of activity, the company has premiered classical, neoclassical, and contemporary works such as Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, Paquita, Juliet and Romeo, and Triple Bill, among others. It has presented its work on international tours in Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Italy, and Andorra, as well as at the prestigious New York City Center, where it received great acclaim from both audiences and critics. This November, the company will travel to St. Petersburg to open the Diaghilev Festival with Juliet and Romeo, choreographed by Elías García.
Tonight, Ballet de Catalunya presents two pieces that showcase its versatility: Souvenir, by choreographer Vincenzo Timpa (Leipzig Opera), a contemporary work, and Fast Avance, by Leo Sorribes, a neoclassical creation that will allow the Liceu audience to discover the diversity and artistic level of the company.
