Josep Pons

Director musical

Considerat un dels directors més rellevants de la seva generació, Josep Pons és el director musical del Gran Teatre del Liceu.

L’any 1985 va fundar l’Orquestra de Cambra Teatre Lliure i, l’any 1993, la Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya. És director honorari de l’Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España i de l’Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, de les quals va ser director artístic i titular. Va ser també director musical executiu de les cerimònies olímpiques de Barcelona 92.

L’any 1999 va ser distingit amb el Premio Nacional de la Música que atorga el Ministeri de Cultura, és acadèmic numerari de la Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts i doctor honoris causa de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. El 2019 va ser guardonat amb la Medalla d’or al mèrit en les Belles Arts.

Ha enregistrat una cinquantena de títols per a Harmonia Mundi France i Deutsche Grammophon, i n’ha obtingut els màxims guardons: Grammy, Cannes Classical Awards, Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cross, Diapasson d’Or i Choc de la Musique.

Dirigeix habitualment les principals orquestres i ho fa a les sales d’arreu del món, i ha establert una relació continuada amb l’Orchestre de París, la Philharmonia, la City of Birmingham, la Gewandhaus de Leipzig, la Staatskapelle de Dresden, l’NHK de Tòquio o la BBC Symphony Orchestra, amb la qual ha fet diverses aparicions als BBC Proms de Londres.

Christopher Maltman

Baritone

Christopher Maltman has won worldwide fame for his interpretation of Don Giovanni, a character he has played in London, Berlin, Cologne, Salzburg, Amsterdam, Toulouse, San Sebastian, New York, Beijing and Chicago. He is also in growing demand for Verdi roles, notably Posa, Simon Boccanegra, Count di Luna and Guy de Montfort and – in forthcoming productions – Don Carlo di Vargas, Rigoletto and Germont.

His performances have won acclaim from audiences and critics everywhere and many have been recorded, among them John Corigliano's The Ghosts of Versailles at the Los Angeles Opera, which was awarded a Grammy.

He has appeared at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Iphigenie auf Tauris (2010/2011), La bohème (2011/2012) and the concert "Netrebko, Eyvazov and Maltman sing Verdi" (2019/20)

Miah Persson

Soprano

Swedish soprano Miah Persson makes regular appearances at opera houses in New York, London, Milan, Vienna, Munich, Brussels, Frankfurt, Los Angeles, Hamburg and other major cities.

Roles she has sung include Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Zerlina and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Sifare (Mitridate, re di Ponto) and Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier).

We have heard her twice at the Liceu: in L’incoronazione di Poppea (2008/09) and Don Giovanni (2016/17).

Véronique Gens

Soprano

The French soprano Véronique Gens has won international acclaim for her interpretations of the Baroque repertory and Mozart.

She began her career in 1986 with William Christie and Les Arts Florissants and subsequently worked with conductors including Marc Minkowski, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs and Daniel Harding.

She has appeared at the Liceu several times, first in the show Entorn de Mozart (1999/2000), and more recently in Don Giovanni (2007/08), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2008/09) and Il burbero di buon cuore (2011/12).

Luca Pisaroni

Bass-baritone

Since his Salzburg Festival debut at the age of 26 with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Pisaroni has appeared in the world's leading opera houses, concert halls and festivals.

In the 2019/20 season he starred as Lindorf / Coppélius / Doctor Miracle / Captain Dapertutto in Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Wiener Staatsoper and sang Don Giovanni in a semistage version by the Basel Symphony Orchestra at the George Enescu Festival. That same season he played Don Pizarro in a concert version of Fidelio with the Opéra de Montréal and appeared at the Met in Le nozze di Figaro and Così fan tutte.

We first saw him at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2017/18 season in L'italiana in Algeri and Agrippina.
